A sunny blue sky with drifting clouds over a sandy beach and sea grass with a small motor boat make up this ocean side scene. The idea of making this came from a variety of pictures thast inspired me with the brush.
9x12, acrylic on canvas
From a postcard with a limited pallet of three paints, I created this this sandy beach with small waves and blue sky. I was able to gain a Caribbean feel. I enjoy the brightness that this beach scene has compared to others I have made.
Bodie Lighthouse Morning
A cool November morning in the Outer Banks I took pictures of this historic site. As the sun rose it silhouetted the lighthouse and surrounding structures making a beautiful picture.
24x36, acrylic on canvas
One of the first paintings I did with a beach and waves. It was inspired by a vacation my family was taking in Kitty Hawk, NC on my wife's fortieth birthday in April. On one of those days we were walking the beach where the sky was bright and blue but the water was cold and crisp.
Bodie Lighthouse Top
22x28, acrylic on canvas
The first painting I did of a lighthouse. With flat head brushes, little details, and with layered coloring of blues and oranges I wanted to give this painting an abstract look.
A Sound Sunrise
18x24, acrylic on canvas
From a photo of a sunrise looking over Roanoke Sound I use to incorporate into this painting. My idea was to layer colors in a way that was Vincent van Goghish in method. The outcome was a glowing scene of brightness that is different from other work I have done.
11x14, acrylic on canvas
One of my brightest paintings. It has a light and airy feel. Like its a hot summer day on the water. There wasn't anything specific that inspired me. I was dabbling with motion and lighter colors to get this effect.
Thomas Point Lighthouse
14x14, acrylic on gallery wrap canvas
A Chesapeake Bay lighthouse that stands on rocks near the mouth of the South River. I have sailed near it many times and enjoyed the view that it portrays on the water.
Saint David Lighthouse , Bermuda
9x12, pastel on paper
I was sailing on the south side of the island when I took a photo of this lighthouse. Since the surrounding homes had pops of color with white limed roofs using pastels accentuated the island feel.
